To reshape, erase, and otherwise manipulate text as paths using the path editing tools, you can convert it to its component path objects. Once you have converted text to paths, you can no longer edit it as text.
Another useful reason for converting text to paths is if you intend to open a document containing text with an unusual font on a computer that does not have that font.
Note: Converting text to paths is not necessary for viewing a particular font in a Web browser, because the text is exported to a bitmap format such as GIF.
To convert selected text to paths:
Choose Text > Convert to Paths.
Text converted to paths retains all of its visual attributes, but you can only edit it as paths.
